Chris Weidman Hopes to Return at Full Strength in 4 Months After Shoulder Surgery Wednesday

Chris Weidman has gone through more personally and professionally than any fighter in the UFC possibly should over the last few weeks.

First, the fighter’s home was destroyed during Superstorm Sandy, and then just as he got back into training for his UFC 155 bout against Tim Boetsch, he suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder that forced him out of the fight and into surgery.

If there is a silver lining to this whole thing, it’s the recovery time that Weidman hopes to get through on his path back to the Octagon.

The New Yorker underwent shoulder surgery on Wednesday to repair the damage, and he’s optimistic about his rehabilitation to get back in the cage very soon.

“Off to get surgery today. Excited to get this over with and come back stronger than ever,” Weidman wrote on his Twitter page on Wednesday. “Had a torn labrum and rotator cuff, AC joint seperation and slight tear in ligament.”

“I’m told I’ll be at 100-percent at 4 months if everything goes smoothly.”

Weidman has been out of action since July, when he knocked out fellow top ten middleweight Mark Munoz, and he was hoping to close out the year with a win over Boetsch and earn a shot at the UFC middleweight title.

If his recovery goes as planned, Weidman should be able to return to full MMA training in early April 2013.
