Coming from the world of collegiate wrestling, where no one goes undefeated, former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, while not thrilled about it, is able to take losing his belt to Junior dos Santos in stride.
He realizes that with UFC 146 a new opportunity is before him when he takes on fellow former champion Frank Mir.
A win lasts only until your next fight, but so can a loss, and Velasquez has taken the loss to dos Santos and used it as a building block for his return on May 26.
“I love what I do and it’s just like in wrestling, you have a loss, it’s not the end of the world,” Velasquez said on Tuesday. “You have to come back stronger, just see what you did wrong. You learn from your mistakes. That’s the only thing you can do. Move on forward and just try to get better.”
He’s hoping to show just how much better he’s gotten when he faces Mir at UFC 146.
