Cage Warriors Fight Night 10’s Dave Hill won’t again underestimate opponent

While Dave Hill readies to fight an opponent who has just two days of preparation, he is thinking fondly of past mistakes.

Earlier in his career, Hill had a fight with an opponent by the name of Artem Lobov. In hindsight, Hill admits he didn’t take the fight as seriously as he should have and was under the impression he would steamroll Lobov.

It’s easy to figure out how that story played out. Lobov upset Hill by decision in the fight, forcing the Englishman to seriously re-evaluate his career.

“I didn’t think he was rubbish or anything like that, I just thought I had him and went in a little bit too confident,” Hill told MMAjunkie Radio. “Everyone out there nowadays is so much more competitive in MMA and everyone’s growing, getting better and the game is evolving all the time.

“You’ve got to make sure you’re on the ball because you know everyone is coming to fight, coming to win and everyone wants success. You’ve got to make sure you’re the one they don’t take advantage of.”

Unfortunately, Hill was the one who got taken advantage of in that fight, but he vows to never let it happen again.

So even though Miguel Haro (7-4) owns a modest MMA record and enters Friday’s bout at Cage Warriors Fight Night 10 in Amman, Jordan, on short-notice, Hill (11-3) won’t allow himself to underestimate his foe.

“In MMA anyone can do anything,” Hill said. “A grappler can knock you out, you can get submitted by a striker, so I’m ready for anything that can happen.”

The featherweight bout, which will stream on Facebook as part of the event’s preliminary-card (the main card streams on MMAjunkie), poses two fighters with a majority of their wins by submission against one another.

While Hill respects his opponent’s abilities on the ground, he still believes he has the advantage in that area. And like all his fights, he’ll be looking to force a tap out before time expires.

“He has come in as a late replacement, he looks decent on his feet, got good wrestling and he’s an all-around good, tough guy,” Hill said. “I’m happy to go anywhere, my game is on the ground and I’ll try to take advantage if he can’t stop it.”
