Brown, Lima Weigh-In Update

Confusion reigned in San Jose after today's UFC Fight Night weigh-in, with both main eventer Matt Brown and strawweight newcomer Juliana Lima missing their marks weight wise, Brown coming in at 172.5 and Lima at 117.

Both Brown and Lima intended to make a second attempt at coming in at 171 and 116, respectively, but Brown was told by a California State Athletic Commission official that he was not going to be allowed to make a second try, though commission rules allow two hours for such an attempt. Shortly afterward, Lima was pulled from her attempt to make weight and put back on the scale, where she clocked in at 116.5 pounds.

UFC President Dana White discussed the matter with commission officials, asking why the fighters would be fined if they were both willing to cut the extra poundage in the time allotted. The commission agreed that there was a miscommunication, and both fighters will proceed with their bouts as scheduled and will not be fined by the CSAC or the UFC. Brown and Lima will be eligible for post-fight bonuses, and Brown will be eligible for a welterweight title shot should he defeat Robbie Lawler.
