Brian Melancon is out of his scheduled UFC Fight Night 33 bout with Robert Whittaker. UFC officials announced his withdrawal on Wednesday without disclosing the reason.
With the Brisbane fight card just two weeks away, UFC officials said they would not attempt to keep Whittaker on the card. He will instead be moved to a later card.
UFC Fight Night 33 was originally slated to have 13 bouts, but with the removal of the Melancon vs. Whittaker fight, it’s likely that the card will stand pat with 12 bouts.
A five-round heavyweight non-title bout pitting Mark Hunt against Antonio “Bifoot” Silva tops the card. UFC Fight Night 33 takes place on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Brisbane Entertainment Center in Brisbane, Australia. Because of the time difference, it airs on Fox Sports 1 on Friday, Dec. 6, in the United States.
