The Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission has suspended Bellator middleweight contender Doug Marshall for failing a recent drug test.
PSAC executive director Gregory Sirb confirmed the positive drug test result to MMAWeekly.com on Monday, following an initial report by TheMMAReport.com.
The drug test violation stems from Marshall’s unsuccessful challenge of middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 109 on Nov. 22 in Bethlehem, Penn.
While Sirb confirmed that Marshall has been suspended and fined, he did not disclose the duration of the suspension or the amount of the fine, nor did he reveal the substance for which Marshall tested positive.
Marshall had been on a four-fight winning streak entering the bout with Shlemenko. All four of those bouts were under the Bellator banner, and included three victories to capture the Bellator Season 8 middleweight tournament.
