Straus, 28, was scheduled to contend for Bellator’s featherweight title on April 4 but was forced to withdraw from that Bellator 95 appearance due to a broken hand. Instead, champion Pat Curran will now face Season 7 tournament winner Shahbulat Shamhalaev.
A winner in 17 of his last 18 fights, Straus rebounded from his loss to Patricio Freire in Bellator’s Season 4 finals to capture the Season 6 crown last year, outpointing Jeremy Spoon, Mike Corey and Marlon Sandro to earn a $100,000 payday and a guaranteed title shot. Straus last saw action on Oct. 26, when he submitted UFC veteran Alvin Robinson with a rear-naked choke at Bellator 78.
