Shamhalaev checked in at 145.9 pounds on his second attempt at Wednesday’s Bellator 90 weigh-ins after initially tipping the scales at 146.8. Martinez weighed in at 145.9 pounds on his first try.
The featherweights were initially supposed to meet last year, but their showdown was twice postponed, first due to food poisoning and then due to a family obligation. Martinez and Shamhalaev now top the Bellator 90 card, which takes place Thursday night at Maverik Center in Salt Lake City.
Light heavyweight semifinalists Muhammed Lawal (204.3) and Emanuel Newton (204.8) also hit their marks, as did Mikhail Zayats (204.9) and Jacob Noe (205.3). Both contests will be featured on the Spike TV-broadcast main card alongside Douglas Lima (170.9) and Bryan Baker’s (170.5) welterweight semifinal.
