ST. LOUIS – Bobby Lashley (13-2 MMA, 3-0 BMMA) continued his undefeated run in the Bellator MMA cage with a wrestling-heavy stoppage of late replacement Dan Charles (9-3 MMA, 2-2 BMMA).
The heavyweight bout was part of today’s Bellator 138 main card, which took place at St. Louis’ Scottrade Center. It aired on Spike TV following prelims on MMAjunkie.
Lashley scored an early takedown but wasn’t able to keep Charles on the floor. However, Lashley stayed relentless in his pursuit of the takedown scoring suplex after suplex as Charles would be driven to the canvas, only to rise to his feet and repeat the process again.
In the second, Lashley was aggressive again with his takedown-based attack. Charles briefly threatened from his back with a triangle choke, but Lashley elevated his opponent and slammed his way out of the hold before going back to his smothering grind.
Charles was warned repeatedly for grabbing the fence by referee John McCarthy, but it was his only effective defense. With that taken out of the equation, Lashley continues to drive his opponent to the floor and punch away until McCarthy finally decided he had seen enough with 46 seconds left in the second round.
