Behind the Scenes of Cris Cyborg’s Brutal UFC 198 Weight Cut to 140 Pounds

Cris Cyborg documentary weight cut

Although it wasn’t a marquee match-up with Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm or Miesha Tate, Cris “Cyborg” Justino made her Octagon debut at UFC 198 in May. Fighting at a catchweight of 140 pounds, the Invicta FC featherweight champion did what she does best, she blasted Leslie Smith, putting her away in 1:21 of the first round.

Cyborg’s UFC debut had been a long time coming, but fans still have clamored for her to fight one of the big names in the bantamweight division. The problem for Cyborg is hitting the 135-pound mark required for such a fight.

Many fans and pundits alike have criticized her for not dropping down to 135 pounds in order to get a fight with Rousey, Holm or Tate, but as you can see in the clip from her upcoming documentary below, getting down to 140 pounds was a brutal achievement for Cyborg.

The clip has other behind-the-scenes moments from UFC 198, but the grueling, emotionally draining weight cut is what stands out, and certainly should make anyone who bags on her for not taking a fight at 135 pounds reconsider their criticism.
