A heavyweight slugfest is set for the UFC 195 co-main event, and it could decide the next contender for the championship.

Andrei Arlovski (25-10 MMA, 14-4 UFC) will face Stipe Miocic (13-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) in the penultimate bout of the event, which takes place Jan. 2 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

The announcement was made on the official UFC Twitter account.

Arlovski, ranked No. 5 in the NOS Energy Drink MMA heavyweight rankings, is coming off an uninspiring but important unanimous decision win over Frank Mir at UFC 191. He is currently riding a six-fight winning streak that has propelled him into the title contention discussion years after many were calling for his retirement.

Miocic, ranked No. 4, was forced out of his scheduled UFC Fight Night 76 co-main event against Ben Rothwell after suffering an injury. In his most recent fight, Miocic defeated Mark Hunt by TKO in a dominant UFC Fight Night 65 performance. The win got Miocic back on the winning track following a unanimous decision loss to Junior Dos Santos in the UFC on FOX 13 main event.

The latest UFC 195 lineup now includes:

  • Champ Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit – for welterweight title
  • Andrei Arlovski vs. Stipe Miocic
  • Drew Dober vs. Erik Koch
  • Edgar Garcia vs. Sheldon Westcott
