The UFC’s return to Southern California in July has a new welterweight bout on tap.
Alan Jouban (11-3 MMA, 2-1 UFC) will take on Matt Dwyer (8-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 71. UFC officials announced the new bout today.
UFC Fight Night 71 (formerly UFC Fight Night 72) takes place July 15 at Valley View Casino Center in San Diego. The main card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1.
Jouban was expected to fight in his home state of Louisiana in June, but an injury forced him off that card when he wasn’t going to be ready in time. Instead, he’ll fight about a month and a half later in California. After a “Fight of the Night” knockout win in his UFC debut against Seth Baczynski, Jouban dropped a decision to Warlley Alves this past November. But he rebounded in February with a knockout of Richard Walsh at UFC 184 in Los Angeles. Now he’ll try to make it two straight in SoCal when he hits San Diego in July.
Dwyer started his MMA career 7-1, all for the regional Battlefield Fight League, where he became the welterweight champion. HE signed with the UFC, but was knocked out in 63 seconds by an Albert Tumenov head kick and punch. He rebounded in a big way in February, though, when he went into hostile territory in Brazil and knocked out William Macario with a Superman punch to pick up a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus.
With the addition, UFC Fight Night 71 now includes:
