After Trump Drops "The Mother of All Bombs" in Afghanistan, Tim Kennedy Re-Enlists in Army Special Forces | FIGHTLAND

It’s been three months since Tim Kennedy announced his retirement from mixed martial arts and his enlistment with the U.S. Army Special Forces came to an end, and apparently three months is his limit when it comes to sitting on the sidelines while there is American combat going on. Yesterday, four months after losing his last fight to Kelvin Gastellum at UFC 206, Kennedy announced that he has re-enlisted in the Special Forces and is waiting to be deployed.

Kennedy says had been putting off his decision to re-enlist until the November presidential election, unsure if he could serve under Hillary Clinton (who he blames for the death of four Americans during the Benghazi attack on 2012), but after Donald Trump (a man he once called an “egotistical dick that borderlines on ethnocentric politics”) won and then appointed General James Mattis to be his secretary of defense and General H.R. McMaster as his national security advisor, the former middleweight contender realized that things were about to get awesome again for the American military.

“When Donald Trump starts putting General Mattis and General McMaster in my chain of command, dude, let me tell you how good my life is about to get!” Kennedy cheered on a video released on TMZ earlier today.

Kennedy’s announcement caps off a week full of military/Kennedy-related news. First the fighter screened footage of himself leaping out of a helicopter into a field in his native Texas and then re-enlisting with the Texas Army National Guard on Facebook on April 9. (“2006 in Iraq was good times,” he reminisces as he’s walking to the ceremony site.) Four days later, the Pentagon announced that they had dropped a GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB) on an ISIS cave and tunnel complex in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province Thursday. Nicknamed the "mother of all bombs," the MOAB is the biggest non-nuclear bomb in the U.S. arsenal and Thursday was the first time it had ever been used. For some, the dropping of the MOAB was a necessary response to ISIS aggression and the recent killing of a Green Beret in the region. For others it was an act of disproportionate malice on the part of an inexperienced, beleaguered president eager to show the world he means business. But for Tim Kennedy it was exactly the message he’d been waiting for—a thrilling and righteous call to arms. The next day he posted this open letter to ISIS on all his social media accounts next to a picture of himself dressed in a military vest, wielding a knife, flexing his muscles, and screaming:

“Dear isis,

If you are lucky enough to kill a Special Forces operator, the possibility of us dropping the biggest non-nuclear bomb ever made on you should be the least of your concerns. There is a vengeance and wrath associated with the loss of one of our brothers. May God have mercy on your soul because we are coming and we will have none to give.

The U.S. Military”

As Kennedy would say two days later on Fox and Friends, he looked and sounded “fired up!”

And so did the hosts of that show, who greeted Kennedy yesterday morning by complimenting him on the “awesome photo” and announcing their desire to see Kennedy take on “some scrawny ISIS fighter” in the cage. Surely then justice would be done.

The Fox hosts then asked the 37-year-old Bronze Star winner why he decided to enlist now, as if they didn’t already know the answer. “Man, I got hope again,” Kennedy responded with a big smile. “The military, we got our teeth back. We dropped the biggest bomb. Eleven tons of TNT, essentially, goes into destroying everything within a mile radius. … We have a reinvigorated, hopeful, beautiful military that is proud to be back on the team.”

Don’t look now, but America might finally be getting great again.
