Robert Whittaker defeated Yoel Romero to claim the interim UFC middleweight title at UFC 213 in July of 2017. The two meet in the UFC 225 main event on June 9, where Romero will attempt to take the
undisputed title from Whittaker.
Whittaker had been waiting to unify the title with the winner of Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre, who fought in November of 2017, but after St-Pierre claimed the belt, he quickly vacated it, citing health issues.
Whittaker was elevated to undisputed champion, but then was plagued by his own health issues, sidelining him for a few months. Meanwhile, Romero bounced back with a knockout victory over Luke Rockhold to earn his shot at the title.
Whittaker and Romero fielded questions on a UFC 225 media call with reporters, breaking down their championship rematch.
