At UFC 257, former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler scored a thunderous knockout (KO) victory over contender Dan Hooker in the first round of their pay-per-view co-main event on Fight Island.
The question is how 'Iron' Mike was able to do it. In short, he managed to pressure the City Kickboxing product backwards, mix up his strikes going low and high and eventually land a thunderous left to close the show. But like any fight breakdown, the devil resides in the details.
Working with Henri Hooft and other top coaches has massively improved Chandler's game, especially his ability to close distance when striking at distance. With this win, however, he took that to the next level.
Is he the next fighter to contend for the title of UFC lightweight champion? Only time will tell, but whether he fights Dustin Poirier or anyone else next, they all have their hands full.
