Every sport has traditions on how athletes are trained. While tradition works for some, it comes with many problems that needs to be addressed. Muay Thai faces a few issues that are far from unique. In just about every sport, the mentality is typically "sink or swim" and "train till you drop." This filtering process naturally selects those tolerate the training tradition, but with it also comes a lot of issues. Imagine if Usain Bolt and the greatest marathon runner of all time trained the same way. Or more specific to combat sports, what if the Diaz brothers trained the same way as McGregor or Tyrone Woodley? Athletes have individual differences that need to be addressed. We see successful athletes and say "hey they didn't need sports science!" but those who share this sentiment don't consider how many athletes have been filtered out by the very same methods.
