[1/2] Ladies and gentlemen, friends and fans, During my flight to Las Vegas, I was thinking to write a few words. Like I've said many times, fighting for the UFC feels like a dream. In a few days, I will compete against another former UFC heavyweight champion: Junior dos Santos Cigano. Dos Santos is a legend of the game, has a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and he has my utmost respect for what has done for the sport. Right now he is ranked number 5 in the heavyweight division and I want his spot. We're both training at the same gym, American Top Team, but we've never trained together yet. Interesting for my international fans should also be the fact that Junior's home country Brazil is neighboring my home country Suriname. But Brazil is a huge country with a population of about 210 million people. In contrary, Suriname has less than 700.000 inhabitants. The people of my home country are a beautiful mixture of many cultures and the Brazilian community is surely part of it. For example my first name "Jairzinho". I was named after one of the greatest soccer players of all time, "Jair Ventura Filho", nicknamed "Jairzinho". He was a member of the legendary Brazilian national team that won the 1970 FIFA World Cup. My father was a great fan of him. Once I flew to São Paulo and went to a museum to learn more about him. In December 2019 I and my team were invited for lunch with the Brazilian Ambassador in Suriname and his staff. This is another example of how close our countries and people are connected. We were in the process of organizing a meeting with the senior Jairzinho but as you all know, early 2020 the worldwide pandemic put many projects on hold. Luckily a Brazilian journalist also took the initiative and asked us to make a short video for him. Then he met with Jair, showed him our video, and some of my fights. You can find this video on Youtube.
