Ultimate Fighting Championship officials Tuesday announced that Yahya has been forced out of his planned clash with Bedford at UFC Fight Night “Swanson vs. Stephens” for undisclosed reasons. Instead, Bedford will do battle with Cody Gibson at the June 28 event, which takes place at AT&T Center in San Antonio.
The show airs live on Fox Sports 1 and is headlined by a featherweight matchup pitting Cub Swanson against Jeremy Stephens.
Bedford, 31, most recently competed in April, when an accidental clash of heads led to a no-contest with Yahya. Prior to that result, the “TUF 14” alum saw a three-fight winning streak snapped by Bryan Caraway, who submitted Bedford with a third-round guillotine choke at UFC 159.
Gibson, 26, will enter the Octagon coming off a loss, as “The Renegade” was outpointed by Aljamain Sterling this past February at UFC 170. The setback halted a six-fight surge from the prospect, who unsuccessfully challenged for the vacant Tachi Palace Fights bantamweight belt back in December 2011.
