X-Rays Reveal No Broken Hand for Chad Mendes, Hopes to Face Aldo/Florian Winner

UFC featherweight Chad Mendes received some very good news on Monday after x-rays revealed the fighter had not suffered a broken hand following his fight at UFC 133.

According to Mendes’ manager Jeff Meyer of MMA Inc. (@MMAInc), Mendes visited his doctors to find out the diagnosis and the final word is just strained ligaments in his hand, but nothing broken.

A couple weeks of rest were the only doctor’s orders for Mendes (@ChadMendes), who won a unanimous decision over Rani Yahya during the event.

On Saturday night following the fights, UFC President Dana White said he believed Mendes broke his hand and it might push back his slot as a potential No. 1 contender for a featherweight title shot.

While Mendes still hasn’t received definitive word that he will get the winner of Jose Aldo vs. Kenny Florian at UFC 136, with no injuries to report following his fight with Yahya, he’ll be ready to go if the offer is made.

Mendes, who is currently ranked No. 2 in the MMAWeekly World MMA Rankings, has been widely considered the top contender since his previous win in February over Michihiro Omigawa, but timing was such that he was unable to face Aldo in August as originally rumored.

Mendes opted to stay on the UFC 133 card and stay active, but Aldo bounced back quicker than expected and now fights Kenny Florian on Oct 8 in Houston.

With another win under his belt and no health issues to worry about, Mendes will now head to Houston to watch the featherweight title fight at UFC 136 with a very special interest, and a hope in his heart that Dana White soon offers him a crack at the 145lb champion.
