With Nelson vs. Kim scrapped, Hall vs. Mousasi rematch now headlines UFC Fight Night 99

Next month’s UFC Fight Night 99 event in Northern Ireland has a new headliner.

Gunnar Nelson (15-2-1 MMA, 6-2 UFC) has suffered an undisclosed injury and been forced out of his bout with welterweight Dong Hyun Kim (21-3-1 MMA, 12-3 UFC).

In its place, middleweight contender Gegard Mousasi (40-6-2 MMA, 7-3 UFC) will rematch Uriah Hall (12-7 MMA, 5-5 UFC) in the new main event.

A person close to the event today confirmed the change with MMAjunkie. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity since UFC officials haven’t made a formal announcement. MMAFighting.com first reported the new main event.

UFC Fight Night 99 takes place Nov. 19 at SSE Arena in Belfast, and the entire card streams on UFC Fight Pass.

Mousasi is No. 7 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA middleweight rankings, and Hall is No. 15. However, though Mousasi is on a 5-1 run that’s pushed him into the title picture, the loss during that stretch came via flying knee and punches to Hall at UFC Fight Night 75 in 2015.

Mousasi, a 31-year-old Dutch fighter, has rebounded with three straight wins since that upset loss to 4-1 underdog Hall. After a decision victory over Thales Leites, the former DREAM and Strikeforce champion has picked up knockout wins over Thiago “Marreta” Santos (in a “Performance of the Night” effort) and Vitor Belfort in his two most recent appearances.

Despite the recent win over ex-champ Belfort, Mousasi said it did little to help him in the title picture (watch the video above).

Hall, meanwhile, finds himself in a must-win situation. Since defeating Mousasi in their first meeting, the 32-year-old striker and “The Ultimate Fighter 17” runner-up has suffered a decision loss to Robert Whittaker and a recent TKO defeat to Derek Brunson.

The latest UFC Fight Night 99 card now includes:

  • Uriah Hall vs. Gegard Mousasi
  • James Krause vs. Ross Pearson
  • Timothy Johnson vs. Alexander Volkov
  • Teruto Ishihara vs. Artem Lobov
  • Ian McCall vs. Neil Seery
  • Magnus Cedenblad vs. Jack Marshman

  • Kevin Lee vs. Magomed Mustafaev
  • Amanda Cooper vs. Anna Elmose
