The proposed fight between Daniel Cormier and Dan Henderson is near being finalized, and the winner of the bout will likely earn a shot at the UFC light heavyweight title, according to a report on Wednesday.
UFC Tonight reportedĀ that the fighters have both agreed to the UFC 175 match-up, and have been told that the winner will be next in line for a shot at the belt after Alexander Gustafsson.
As of now, current title holder Jon Jones is preparing for a fight with Glover Teixeira later this month at UFC 172 in Baltimore. When that match-up concludes, the winner will be paired with Gustafsson on a fight card to be announced thereafter.
MMAWeekly.com confirmed with sources over the weekend and earlier this week that the Cormier-Henderson fight was in the works for the UFC 175 pay-per-view. The fight is expected to be made official soon.
The July 5 card, which takes place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Chris Weidman andĀ Lyoto Machida.
