Voelker, Means Replace Injured Bahadurzada, Green at UFC on Fox 8

The UFC on Fox 8 bill was dealt a blow on Thursday, when UFC officials announced that Siyar Bahadurzada and Bobby Green have both suffered injuries that will prevent them from competing at the July 27 event.

Strikeforce import Bobby Voelker will replace Bahadurzada against Robbie Lawler on the main card, while Tim Means now faces Danny Castillo in a preliminary lightweight duel. UFC on Fox 8 takes place at Seattle’s KeyArena and is headlined by a flyweight championship showdown between Demetrious Johnson and John Moraga.

Voelker was expected to meet James Head on Aug. 28 at the second UFC on Fox Sports 1 show, but that booking has now been scrapped. The 34-year-old saw a three-fight winning streak ended in his UFC debut, as “Vicious” was outpointed by Patrick Cote this past March at UFC 158. Prior to that setback, the 34-year-old closed out his Strikeforce career with a pair of victories over Roger Bowling, scoring second-round technical knockouts over the athletic Ohioan in October 2010 and July 2011.

Means (pictured), 29, suffered his first defeat in three years when he was outpointed by ex-Strikeforce title contender Jorge Masvidal, who snatched a unanimous verdict from “The Dirty Bird” this past April at UFC on Fox 7. Known for his finishing ability, the New Mexican owns 16 of his 18 victories by either knockout or submission and has gone the distance just thrice in nine years as a pro.
