Video: Youngster Jake Matthews got an eye-opener during 'TUF Nations' filming

Jake Matthews, the young 19-year-old Australian on “The Ultimate Fighter Nations,” got a crash course in MMA training during the show’s filming.

The reality show, which features a Canadian vs. Australia theme this year, continues tonight on FOX Sports 1. However, with filming completed for the pre-taped show, MMAjunkie caught up with Matthews to get his biggest takeaway from his time on the series.

While many past cast members have talked about hellish experiences – and more than a few saying no amount of money could convince them to go through the process again – the 170-pound Matthews said he’d gladly do it all over again.

“It was more the work ethic, the frequency of the training, training twice a day for two hours at a time,” Matthews said when asked about his biggest takeaway. “That’s something that was new new to pretty much all of us. Having to work and go to school, you don’t get the time to do that.”

Matthews said Australia’s still-developing MMA scene also didn’t provide the level of training he received on the show, where he was coached by UFC vet Kyle Noke.
