Demian Maia started his UFC career 5-0 with four “Submission of the Night” bonuses – and he hasn’t won one since.
The most recent one came in February 2009 against eventual two-division title challenger Chael Sonnen, whom he tapped midway through the first round in a middleweight fight.
Maia (18-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC), of course, dropped to welterweight in 2012, and there,he has gone 3-0. Now he headlines a card for the first time since he challenged Anderson Silva for the middleweight belt at UFC 112 when he meets Jake Shields (28-6-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 29 on Wednesday.
Check out Maia’s submission win over Sonnen in the video above. Then don’t miss his fight with Shields in Brazil on Wednesday on FOX Sports 1.
