Roy Nelson dropped Antonio Silva with a big uppercut and continued to throw blows until the fight was stopped. Unfortunately, Nelson felt the stoppage came far too late and was visibly upset at referee John McCarthy at the conclusion of the bout.
The heavyweight bout was part of the main card of today’s UFC Fight Night 95 event at Nilson Nelson Gymnasium in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia. It aired on FS1 following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
After a competitive first round, Nelson (22-13 MMA, 9-9 UFC) countered a low kick with an uppercut, landing cleanly to the chin of Silva (19-10-1 MMA, 3-7-1 UFC). Silva dropped to the canvas and Nelson threw follow up shots, landing over and over before looking at McCarthy in a sort of disbelief. Moments later, McCarthy called off the bout, awarding Nelson the TKO at the 4:10 mark of Round 2.
