Former Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez will try to rebound from his first loss since 2008 later this month.
In April, “El Nino” made his UFC debut in a title fight against then-champ Benson Henderson, but dropped a split decision in San Jose, Calif., essentially a home fight for him.
Now Melendez (21-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) will travel to Houston for UFC 166 at Toyota Center on Oct. 19 to fight Diego Sanchez (24-5 MMA, 13-5 UFC) hoping to get back in the win column and start on another run at the lightweight title against a man who once fought for that belt, as well.
In the video above, Melendez talks about his warrior’s code and how putting on the four-ounce gloves are like putting on armor for battle for him.
Check out the video, then don’t miss Melendez against Sanchez on the main card of the UFC 166 pay-per-view later this month.
