Video: Tyron Woodley breaks down Hendricks-Lawler UFC 171 main event

Tyron Woodley has arguably the biggest fight of his career coming up at UFC 171 in March.

And right after Woodley (12-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) fights Carlos Condit (29-7 MMA, 6-3 UFC) in the co-main event, he’ll be wanting to take a close look at the headlining bout – because there’s a good chance he’ll be fighting the winner with a victory.

With former champ Georges St-Pierre vacating the welterweight title, Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler meet for the new belt at UFC 171 at American Airlines Center in Dallas on March 15. And the winner could wind up meeting the Woodley-Condit winner.

As part of a Q&A with fans at UFC on FOX 10 in Chicago this past Friday, Woodley said it was hard for him to predict who will come out on top in that title fight for the chance to become the UFC’s first new 170-pound champion since Matt Serra, who held the belt from April 2007 when he upset St-Pierre to April 2008, when he lost their rematch.

“(Hendricks has) been around for a long time, and he’s definitely leading the pack right now,” Woodley said. “He’s got great wrestling, good power and he’s been in some tough, valid matches lately. But since Robbie dropped down to 170, he’s been on a tear.

“This is the first time in a while you’ve seen two guys that are coming up at the same time and are both equally hungry. Whoever lands that hard blow first is probably going to win.”
