One of the greatest lightweights in MMA history is the focus of a new FOX Sports 1 special that debuts Tuesday.
“UFC 1 on 1: B.J. Penn” explores the career of “The Prodigy,” a former two-division UFC champ, lighter-weight trailblazer and 2015 UFC Hall of Fame inductee.
The half-hour special, which Jay Glazer hosts, debuts Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT) on FOX Sports 1.
Check out a preview above.
Penn hasn’t fought since a July 2014 loss to Frankie Edgar. The vet, who’s fought as heavy as heavyweight, made his featherweight debut in the bout.
But Penn’s real success came at 155 pounds, where the jiu-jitsu specialist won the title in 2008 and helped put the division on the map, as well as 170 pounds, where he won the UFC belt in 2004. Although he closed out his career with a 1-5-1 skid, the 36-year-old never backed down from bigger challenges during his 13-year career, which included a 2005 K-1 loss to 225-pounder Lyoto Machida.
Although Penn has flirted with the idea of a comeback, he has no concrete plans for a return to the cage. In the meantime, you can relive his memorable career with Tuesday’s special.
