Later this month, we’re treated to a matchup between two of the sport’s biggest and most diverse personalities. To get ready, geek out and watch this extended video preview of “UFC 183: Silva vs. Diaz.”
The two MMA vets, fan favorites and former big-show champions – Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz – meet Jan. 31 in a middleweight headliner at the pay-per-view event, which takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Silva (33-6 MMA, 16-2 UFC), an all-time MMA great who had a long reign as the UFC’s middleweight champion (and pound-for-pound kingpin), returns from a year-plus injury layoff after snapping his leg in a rematch loss to champ Chris Weidman in late 2013. After a lengthy but inspiring recovery, the 39-year-old now meets Diaz (26-9 MMA, 7-6 UFC), a former Strikeforce welterweight titleholder. The 31-year-old has been on the sidelines since a title loss to then-champ Georges St-Pierre in March 2013. A fight prior, he suffered a loss to Carlos Condit for the interim belt and snapped a career-best 11-fight winning streak that took the vet’s career to new heights.
Check out the preview, which also includes a look at the welterweight co-headliner of Kelvin Gastelum (10-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) vs. Tyron Woodley (14-3 MMA, 4-2 UFC), above. You can also watch the slick fighter-specific promos below.
