If it was stoppages they were looking for, fans got their money’s worth at Thursday’s Bellator 93 event.
Only the main event lightweight tournament final between Dave Jansen and Marcin Held went the distance, with Jansen taking a unanimous decision after a back-and-forth fight. The win gave him the Season 7 155-pound tournament title and a future shot at champion Michael Chandler.
The tourney final, delayed into Season 8 from this past December, headlined the show at Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston, Maine. The main card aired on Spike TV following prelims on Spike.com
Prior to the lightweight tourney final, Ryan Martinez stopped Travis Wiuff just 18 seconds into the first round of their heavyweight fight. And in a disappointing finish to a promising fight, Maine native Marcus Davis, making his Bellator debut, caught Waachiim Spiritwolf with a low blow and Spiritwolf could not continue – making their fight a no contest.
The seven-fight prelims featured seven stoppages, including Michael Page’s 10-second knockout of Ryan Sanders, Jason Butcher’s triangle choke win over Jack Hermansson, Joe Pacheco’s Americana win over Pierry Pierre and Dave Vitkay’s guillotine victory over Jesse Peterson.
