VADA Offers Drug Testing for TUF Finale Main Event, Carwin’s Camp Says That’s News to Them

Shane Carwin and Roy NelsonFollowing a season of coaching opposite one another, Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin will finally settle their differences at the Ultimate Fighter finale on Dec 15 in Las Vegas.

The bout will be held under direction from the Nevada State Athletic Commission, who does drug testing prior to fights under their jurisdiction, but it looks like another agency is hoping to do some testing of their own.

VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency) has offered to do additional drug testing for the Nelson vs. Carwin fight, similar to the process they are doing for the Rory MacDonald/B.J. Penn fight at UFC on Fox 5 also in December.

In a press release sent out on Thursday, a statement read, “Dr. Margaret Goodman and the Voluntary Anti?Doping Association (VADA) is offering their service to Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin to clean up the black eye in combat sports with its testing for performance?enhancing drugs. Roy Nelson has already signed on with VADA and now awaiting Shane Carwin’s commitment.”

For his part, Roy Nelson added “This fight is going to happen but it’s going to be fair. I know Shane has never failed a drug test in his professional fighting career. And that’s why as former champions we are leaders and it is essential that we make theses stands for young athletes in our sport. We will settle our beef and squash the juice on Dec 15.”

Well according to Carwin’s manager Jason Genet from Ingrained Media, VADA has yet to contact or reach out to the former UFC heavyweight champion in any way, shape or form.

“The only time I heard of VADA was when they posted their story making false and defamatory comments about Shane. They removed the article. They are a bully not a valid independent regulatory body,” said Genet when speaking to MMAWeekly.com.

“Our office has not been contacted and you can contact us or Shane right through his website. He even tweeted his phone number so it is not like we are avoiding anyone’s call.”

Carwin and his team will continue to work with the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testing ahead of the Dec 15 fight in Las Vegas.

Carwin and Nelson are currently both in training camp preparing for their December showdown, and it appears there’s more to be settled than just a rivalry raised during the filming of a reality show.
