Uscola Blasts Marshall; Serao Takes Middleweight Belt at TPF 6

LEMOORE, Calif. -- Kyacey Uscola knocked out Doug Marshall in the main event of Tachi Palace Fights 6 on Thursday at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino.

Uscola, fresh off a stint on “The Ultimate Fighter,” needed just 3:17 to finish off the former WEC champ. Marshall came out looking to strike, but Uscola wanted it on the mat. Uscola got the takedown, took Marshall’s back and landed brutal, echoing shots that put Marshall out cold.

Leopoldo Serao captured the Tachi Palace Fights middleweight title with a hard-fought split decision over local favorite Anthony Ruiz. It was obvious from the start that Serao wanted nothing to do with the stand-up game. He kept his defense tight, avoided exchanges and looked for takedowns. His aggressive jiu-jitsu game and stifling top control were the keys to victory.

Ruiz, who clearly had the crowd behind him, never found his range on the feet. He spent most of the time on the mat defending against Serao’s impressive arsenal of submissions. Serao began losing steam as the fight wore on, and Ruiz looked dominant in the fifth round, but Ruiz’s efforts were too little too late.

Former WEC 155-pound champ “Razor” Rob McCullough fought his way to a unanimous decision over UFC veteran Corey Hill. McCullough had trouble getting inside on the long-limbed Hill, but he managed enough offense to secure the judges’ nod.

Hill threatened with submission attempts in every round. McCullough was able to defend and finished the final round with dominant ground-and-pound from Hill’s guard to seal the victory.

Micah Miller won a unanimous decision over tough UFC veteran Diego Saraiva. Saraiva was game, but he managed almost no meaningful offense. Miller controlled the range of the fight, stuffing all of Saraiva’s takedown attempts and turning the fight into a boxing match. Saraiva was visibly frustrated at his inability to reach the lanky Miller.

Miller will now get a crack at TPF 145-pound champ Isaac DeJesus.

Darrell Montague looked impressive in defeating Luis Gonzales via TKO in the first round of their flyweight match. Montague controlled the pace, used great takedown defense to keep the fight standing and landed a right to drop Gonzales near the end of round one. Montague followed Gonzales down and landed two punches to flatten his opponent out. The ref stepped in at 4:42 of the first round.

Joseph Henle barely escaped receiving his first loss. He fought Collin Hart to a 28-28 draw on all three judges’ cards. Hart would have walked away with the win if not for a dubious point deduction for an unintentional groin shot in the second round.
