Welcome to the latest edition of the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA Rankings
Each Monday, MMAjunkie.com publishes an updated list of the top 15 fighters, as well as three honorable mentions (in alphabetical order), in the eight primary male weight divisions. The rankings also appear monthly in the print edition of USA TODAY.
The welterweights took center stage this past week at UFC 158 as five Top 10 fighters were in action. UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre maintained his No. 1 ranking with a shutout unanimous-decision win over Nick Diaz, who dropped from No. 4 to Mo. 5. Johny Hendricks, meanwhile, kept his No. 2 status with a close win over Carlos Condit, who lost his No. 3 spot to fellow UFC 158 winner Jake Ellenberger. Condit earned a narrow split-decision win over him in 2009, but Ellenberger’s recent body of work (including an 8-1 record and five knockouts) gives him the edge in our rankings.
Featherweight Darren Elkins also moved from No. 9 to No. 7 thanks to his first-round TKO of Antonio Carvalho at UFC 158. Elkins is now 5-0 in the UFC’s 145-pound division.
T.J. Dillashaw, meanwhile, maintained an honorable mention slot in the bantamweight rankings following a second-round knockout of Issei Tamura.

The rankings take into account a fighter's wins/losses, quality of competition, finishing rate/dominance and frequency of fights.
Fighters are no longer eligible to be ranked after they've been inactive for 24 months, either due to injuries, drug/conduct suspensions, contract disputes or self-imposed hiatuses.
Fighters serving drug/conduct suspensions are eligible to be ranked, so long as they're not inactive for more than 24 months.
To the best of our ability, fighters will be ranked in their primary weight class. Catchweight fights and bouts outside the fighter's primary weight class can have a positive or negative impact on the ranking. However, fighters can be ranked in only one weight class at a given time, and in most cases, they won't be ranked in a new weight class until they've had their first fight at that weight.
