UFC's Mike Swick says he's returning to middleweight

mike-swick-9.jpgAfter mixed results with a drop to welterweight, Mike Swick is returning to his former home at middleweight.

The veteran UFC fighter announced the plans via Twitter.

“I wanna come back at a big and healthy 185. No more sickly 170 for me!” he wrote in a response to a fan’s question about his return.

Swick (15-5 MMA, 10-4 UFC), who hasn’t fought since a knockout loss to Matt Brown this past December, went on to say he has a few more medical tests before putting together a game plan for the return to middleweight.

Swick, who first entered the UFC after appearing on the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” was on the sidelines for more than two years from 2010 to 2012 due to stomach/esophagus issues and a knee injury. However, he triumphantly returned this past August and scored a “Knockout of the Night” win over DaMarques Johnson, which netted him a new four-fight UFC contract.

Prior to the needed win, Swick had dropped back-to-back fights to Dan Hardy and Paulo Thiago at welterweight. His record in the division now stands at 5-3, which included victories in his first four fights at 170 pounds.

Swick hasn’t been booked for his next fight.
