UFC's Cormier, Rockhold take 'first goal' honors at Earthquakes game


daniel-cormier-23.jpgAfter recently taking to a baseball mound for the Oakland A’s, UFC heavyweight Daniel Cormier (11-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) will now try his hand (and feet) at soccer.

Cormier and fellow American Kickboxing Academy product Luke Rockhold have been selected for “first goal” honors at Saturday’s Major League Soccer game between the San Jose Earthquakes and Vancouver Whitecaps at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

Cormier and Rockhold’s ceremony is set for 7:15 PT local time. The game kicks off 15 minutes later. Tickets for the game run between $22 and $58.

Additionally, both Cormier and Rockhold will take part in a halftime goal-scoring contest, with the winner’s chosen charity receiving a donation of proceeds from an auction scheduled for the evening of the game.

Cormier makes his UFC debut two weeks later in a long-awaited tilt with former UFC champion Frank Mir in the co-main event of UFC on FOX 7, which takes place at San Jose’s HP Pavilion.

Meanwhile, former Strikeforce champ Rockhold headlines May’s UFC on FX 8 event against former UFC champ Vitor Belfort. The pair headlines UFC on FX 8, which takes place in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.
