UFC on Versus 5 Results: Chris Lytle Rides Off Into the Sunset, Subs Dan Hardy

Chris Lytle finished his career on his own terms, submitting Dan Hardy in the main event of UFC on Versus 5: Hardy vs. Lytle.

The mixed martial arts veteran caught his opponent in a guillotine choke late in the fight and submitted him at 4:16 of the third round.

Lytle came out strong to open the fight, fancying body shots against his British opponent. It didn’t seem as though these two had any intention of going to the ground because the fight stayed on the feet with both throwing heavy leather. Lytle appeared to land a few more shots, shaking Hardy on more than one occasion with lefts and rights to the head. The first round closed out with Lytle getting the upper hand.

Lytle continued with the power shots in the second round. After some heavy hands from Lytle, Hardy came back with a thunderous right hand to wobbled his opponent. Hardy rushed in, but Lytle recovered shortly after. From there, an inadvertent eye-poke by Lytle put a halt to the action, Hardy came back and hit his opposition with a strong upper cut that dazed the 13-year veteran. Lytle recovered and the two continued their stand-up war, trading punches. Just before the end of the round, Lytle landed a right cross-left hook combination that sent awes through the Milwaukee crowd.

In Lytle’s final round as a mixed martial artist, the standing tradeoff continued with Hardy. Lytle threw a combination of head and body punches throughout the final stanza, each of them with vicious intentions. Hardy seemed to get out-pointed in the third, but it wasn’t until he went for a take-down when it all came to an end. Lytle caught Hardy in a guillotine choke and mounted the British fighter leading the way to the tap-out late the final round.

“I honestly love being a fighter,” Lytle said following the victory. “I love being part of the UFC. I love it… more than anything more in my life, except for one thing and that’s my family. And I know it’s time for me to dedicate more time to them.

“It pains me to do it, but… I’m making the right choice.”

After 13 years as a professional mixed martial artist, Chris Lytle finishes his career at 31-18-5 and remains in the hearts of those who have followed the sport of MMA. From the time he first put on a pair of gloves to the moment he submitted Dan Hardy, Chris Lytle has made a exciting career for himself and MMA fans should thank him for all he has done.

From here, Lytle plans on taking a shot at politics as an Indiana State Legislator.

Dan Hardy now drops his fourth fight in a row after being the no. 1 contender to the welterweight crown. At this point, people begin to speculate if he’ll have a place in the UFC in the future. Well, according to Zuffa chairman Lorenzo Fertitta, Hardy still has a job.

“Will not cut [Dan Hardy] I like guys that WAR!!!” Fertitta said on Twitter.

“The Outlaw” lives to fight another day.
