UFC on Versus 4 Results: Matt Brown Tops John Howard With Unanimous Decision

Matt Brown won a unanimous decision over John Howard in their main card affair at UFC on Versus 4: Kongo vs. Barry.

The fight wasn’t the most exciting, but Brown got the win, ending a three-fight losing-streak as a result.

The opening round had Howard establishing his low kick. Brown did little to defend them, allowing his opponent to score a lot of points. Later, Brown scored some points of his own by landing a couple head kicks, but Howard scored a big takedown with about 1:15 left in the round. The round closed out with both fighters on the feet and Howard’s back against the cage.

In the second round, Howard went back to his low kicks early, but clinched with Brown against the cage shortly after. He worked hard to get the takedown, but didn’t get it. Brown later got a trip on his opponent and worked in Howard’s half guard for an extended amount of time from there. The two traded positions and Brown attempted a triangle then a shoulder lock, but Howard jumped out of danger just before the end of the round.

Howard looked tired going into the final round and Brown took advantage, scoring a takedown in the first minute. Howard was able to scramble and get Brown’s back. From there, he worked tirelessly to get a takedown, but no avail. The Pittsburgh crowd booed a bit as the pace of the fight started to drag. The final minute of the fight had it go to the ground with Howard in Brown’s guard. There was little action from there, however. The round ended with climax.

Even Dana White went to Twitter to voice how he felt about the fight.

“Well that wasn’t what I expected!!!” the UFC president tweeted.

In the end, with Matt Brown taking the decision with all three judges scoring it 29-28 for “The Immortal.”

“I wanted to win this fight even if it was going to be a decision,” Brown said following the win. “I don’t like that, but I got kids to feed, man.”

Howard is now in the midst of a three-fight losing-streak of his own and one can only wonder if he’ll be cut with his third consecutive loss.
