UFC officials recently revealed the fights, which will be contested on Aug. 28 at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The event will be headlined by a welterweight rematch pitting former interim champion Carlos Condit against Martin Kampmann and will also see Donald Cerrone clash with fellow 155-pound standout Rafael dos Anjos in the co-main event.
Whittaker introduced himself to fans as a cast member of “The Ultimate Fighter: The Smashes,” winning the show’s welterweight tournament. Following his victory over Brad Scott in the show’s final this past December, the 22-year-old Aussie returned to the Octagon on May 25, knocking out “TUF 16” winner Colton Smith at UFC 160.
McGee, 28, has posted a 4-2 record since joining the UFC as a middleweight contestant on “TUF 11.” After winning the reality series by submitting Kris McCray, “The Crusher” rattled off consecutive victories before suffering back-to-back defeats that prompted a drop to welterweight. McGee returned to his winning ways in his 170-pound debut, taking a unanimous decision from veteran Josh Neer this past February at UFC 157.
Another “Ultimate Fighter” vet, Edwards, 30, has gone 2-2 in his UFC career, most recently putting Neer to sleep with a guillotine choke this past October at UFC on FX 5. Thatch, meanwhile, makes his UFC foray riding an eight-fight winning streak. The 27-year-old last competed on March 22, when he submitted Roufusport rep Mike Rhodes with a rear-naked choke under the Resurrection Fighting Alliance banner.
