Jussier Formiga vs. Chris Cariaso

Round 1:  Formiga circles. He delivers an outside leg kick and they clinch.  Formiga works for a takedown along the cage and gets it. Cariaso works his way back to his feet only to be tripped back to the canvas.  Formiga advances his position to side control. Cariaso works back to half guard, but Formiga advances to side control again before moving to the mount position.  Cariaso works back to half guard.  Formiga moves to side control again, but Cariaso gets back to full guard.  The referee stands them up.  Formiga has some of his wraps hanging out his glove so it was cut off and the fight restarted.  Cariaso lands an outside leg kick.  Cariaso explodes forward with punches that come up with air.  Formiga delivers a leg kick and they clinch.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Formiga.

Round 2: Cariaso blitzes forward and Formiga immediately takes him down.  Formiga moves to side control and then to the mount position.  Cariaso gets out of the mount but Formiga jumps to the other side into side control.  Cariaso works his way back to half guard.  Formiga slips in a right hand.  It’s a technical battle on the ground and Formiga is simply the better ground fighter.  He advances to the mount position.  He postures up and lands punches.  Cariaso works his way back to full guard and lands an elbow from the bottom. The referee stands them up.  Not sure why but he did.  Cariaso steps in with a right hand that lands but Formiga ties him up.  Cariaso pushes him away.  Cariaso moving forward.  Formiga lands a leg kick and Cariaso counters with a right hand.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Formiga.

Round 3:  Cariaso inches forward.  Formiga clinches and works for a takedown.  He eventually gets it.  Cariaso works his way back to his feet.  Formiga works for a takedown.  Cariaso defends it and they separate.  Cariaso pressing forward.  Formiga changes levels for a takedown.  He presses Cariaso to the cage. Formiga continues to work for the takedown.  Cariaso applies a d’arce choke. Formiga may be in trouble.  He defends it.  They scramble.  Cariaso gets a takedown.  He lands a hard elbow.  Formiga is cut.  Cariaso stands and moves to side control.  He delivers hammer fists and elbows.  Formiga fights his way back to his feet and presses Cariaso against the cage.  Cariaso lands a knee to the body. The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Cariaso.

The judges score the fight for Formiga by unanimous decision.  All three scorecards read 29-28.
