The Las Vegas-based organization confirmed the planned event via Twitter following an initial report from IndyStar.com. No bouts have been announced for the card, set to take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The UFC first visited Indianapolis in September 2010, promoting UFC 119 at the aforementioned venue, which was then known as Conseco Fieldhouse. The event was headlined by a lackluster heavyweight bout between Frank Mir and Mirko Filipovic that provided little action until Mir clipped the Croat with a solid knee to the jaw that knocked him cold late in round three. The pay-per-view event also saw Ryan Bader take a routine decision from Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, while former lightweight champion Sean Sherk was awarded a contentious split verdict over Evan Dunham.
Bankers Life Fieldhouse is home to the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, a franchise currently battling the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference semifinals. The building, capable of housing over 18,000 spectators, also hosts games for the WNBA’s Indiana Fever and the NCAA Big 10 basketball tournaments.
