UFC on FX 4 Weigh-in Results

Gray Maynard vs. Clay Guida UFC on FX 4 weigh-insThe UFC’s lightweight division is right there with the welterweights when it comes to how clogged the top is. Both weight classes are chalk full of worthy title contenders.

The lightweights will receive a slight thinning out on Friday night when top contenders Gray Maynard and Clay Guida square off at the Revel in Atlantic City, N.J.

First Maynard, Guida, and the rest of the UFC on FX 4 roster had to weigh in Thursday afternoon at the Revel.

Neither Maynard nor Guida had any trouble hitting the mark, each treating as if this were for the title. Both fighters stepped on the scale at exactly 155 pounds, which would be good enough for a title fight.

“There’s a big traffic jam at the top of the lightweight division, you’ve got Clay up there, Nate Diaz has been looked great, and there’s Anthony Pettis plus Frankie is rematching with Ben Henderson in September,” said Maynard on Thursday. “There’s a big traffic jam in the division now – and now it isn’t me causing it I think it sucks!

“Winning on Friday night against Guida isn’t good enough. I know I’ve got to knock him out, make a statement, to make my case for a title shot.”

Guida couldn’t agree more, having much the same take as Maynard on the importance of not only winning Friday night’s fight, but putting a stamp on it.

“The lightweight division is so stacked right now, I think it is safe to say I’ve got to knock Gray out to get a title shot,” Guida proclaimed. “There’s five or six guys right now at 155 pounds who are all one big punch or one big kick from being the No. 1 contender. Winning isn’t enough for any of us.”

Only one fighter was unable to make weight and needed extra time and that was preliminary bout lightweight C.J. Keith. He came at one pound over the 156-pound limit for his fight with Ramsey Nijem, and was given one hour to drop the weight.
