UFC on FX 3 Bonuses: Pyle, Silva, Wineland, Jorgensen Bag $40,000 Awards

Four men were awarded UFC post-fight bonuses Friday night, as promotion officials announced that Mike Pyle, Erick Silva, Eddie Wineland and Scott Jorgensen each pocketed an additional $40,000 at UFC on FX 3.

Pyle and Silva (Pictured, file photo) walked away from the BankAtlantic Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with “Knockout of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” honors, while Wineland and Jorgensen earned “Fight of the Night” for their exciting bantamweight affair.

Veteran Josh Neer was the aggressor early in his welterweight scrap with Pyle, but it was “Quicksand” who scored an early takedown. After spending a brief time on his back, Neer escaped to his feet, where he began to press the action, landing punches and elbows on a backpedaling Pyle. Just as the Iowan appeared to be taking over, Pyle launched a straight right hand that clipped Neer’s jaw and stiffened him up on the spot, causing him to fall face-first to the canvas.

Silva seemed unfazed by Charlie Brenneman’s wrestling attack for the entirety of their contest, constantly threatening with strikes as “The Spaniard” tried gamely to close the distance and execute a takedown. Though Brenneman was able to grind on the Brazilian against the cage and even drag him to the mat for brief moments, Silva’s ability to largely neutralize the attempts ultimately led to his victory. After sprawling out on what would be Brenneman’s last takedown attempt, Silva turned the corner and took the American’s back, sinking in his hooks and cinching a rear-naked choke at 4:33 of round one.

Wineland continually found a home for his right hand against Jorgensen in the first round, as the former World Extreme Cagefighting champion cracked “Young Guns” multiple times in the bout’s opening five minutes. Jorgensen would build momentum in the second, however, landing a knee that opened a gash on Wineland’s forehead before finding his range with jabs and straights. Shortly thereafter, a bloody Wineland again uncorked his right following a jab-hook combination that caught Jorgensen cleanly on the jaw and sent him toppling to the canvas, exposed for some fight-ending ground-and-pound.
