Chad Mendes vs. Nik Lentz

Round 1: No touch of gloves in this one.  Mendes takes the center of the cage.  Lentz moves forward.  Mendes lands an outside leg kick.  Mendes lands a right hand and hurt Lentz.  He goes in for the kill and Lentz survives.  Lentz delivers a kick to the body.  Mendes lands a right hand.  Mendes is much faster than Lentz.  Mendes changes levels and takes Lentz to the ground.  Lentz gets to his feet and delivers a knee to the body and they separate.  Mendes lands a combination.  Lentz moves in with a left hand.  Lentz pushes forward and Mendes takes him down.  Lentz gets to his feet but gets hit with a right hand in the process.  Lentz moves forward and Mendes takes him down.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Mendes.

Round 2: Lentz inches forward.  He lands a right hand.  Mendes changes his stance.  They exchange outside leg kicks.  Lentz lands a left hook.  He presses the pace.  Mendes lands a jab followed by an outside leg kick.  Lentz switches stances.  Lentz presses forward and Mendes changes levels and puts Lentz on his back.  Lentz gets back to his feet.  Lentz lands a straight left hand.  Lentz delivers a kick to the body and Mendes takes him down with a double leg.  Mendes isn’t doing anything when he takes Lentz down.  Lentz lands short shots from the bottom.  Lentz kicks him off and stands.  Mendes lands a left hand and takes Lentz down.  Mendes is employing a lay and pray offense.  The round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Mendes.

Round 3: Mendes delivers an outside leg kick to start the final round.  Lentz moves forward and lands a solid kick to the body.  Lentz lands a left hand and Mendes either slipped or was briefly knocked down.  Mendes fires back and lands a right hand.  Mendes looks to get the fight to the ground but Lentz stuffs it and lands a kick to the body.  Lentz presses forward.  He lands an uppercut.  Lents was accidentally poked in the eye but says he’s fine to continue.  He lands a right hand.  Lentz delivers a kick to the body and Mendes takes him down.  Lentz immediately gets back to his feet and lands another kick to the body.  Mendes lands a right hand over the top.  They clinch and Lentz delivers knees to the body.  They separate and Lentz lands a left hook.  Mendes leaps in with a flying knee.  He gets Lentz down and works for a guillotine choke.  Lentz defends the submission attempt and lands left hands to the body of Mendes.  Lentz scrambles back to his feet and the round ends.  MMAWeekly scores the round 10-9 for Lentz.

The judges score the fight for Mendes by unanimous decision.  The scorecards read 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.
