Main-card fighter Robbie Lawler ($156,000) and preliminary-card competitors Melvin Guillard ($84,000) and Ed Herman ($74,000) earned the biggest disclosed paydays from this past weekend’s UFC on FOX 8 event.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) today obtained the salary/fight-purse information from the Washington State Department of Licensing.
UFC on FOX 8 took place July 27 at Seattle’s KeyArena, and the main card aired on FOX following prelims on FX and Facebook. UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, who submitted John Moraga in the night’s main event, tied for the fifth largest disclosed payday on the card. He earned $58,000, which included a $29,000 win bonus.
The total disclosed payroll for the event was $850,000.

Now, the usual disclaimer: The figures do not include deductions for items such as insurance, licenses and taxes. Additionally, the figures do not include money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes be a substantial portion of a fighter’s income. They also do not include any other “locker room” or special discretionary bonuses the UFC oftentimes pays.
For example, as previously reported, UFC officials handed out additional $50,000 UFC on FOX 8 bonuses to Guillard (“KO of the Night”), Johnson (“Submission of the Night”) and Herman and Smith (“Fight of the Night”).
In other words, the above figures are simply base salaries reported to the commission and do not reflect entire compensation packages for the event.
