The fight card for next month’s UFC on FOX 8 event is set with the official lineups for the FX and Facebook portions of the preliminary card.
“UFC on FOX: Johnson vs. Moraga” takes place July 27 at KeyArena in Seattle. The main card, including a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson (17-2-1 MMA, 5-1-1 UFC) and top contender John Moraga (13-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC), airs on FOX.
Prior to the four-fight FOX lineup, nine fights take place on the prelims.
The featured preliminary-card bout is a lightweight fight between onetime Strikeforce title challenger Jorge Masvidal (24-7 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and “TUF 15? winner and Washington resident Michael Chiesa (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC).
Masvidal will be making his second UFC appearance after debuting with a unanimous decision win over Tim Means in April at UFC on FOX 7. He went 5-1 with Strikeforce, including a 3-1 run before the merger with a UFC. That lone loss came in a lightweight title fight against Gilbert Melendez.
Chiesa won “TUF 15? about a year ago with a first-round submission of teammate Al Iaquinta. After a layoff, he returned in February and submitted Anton Kuivanen at UFC 157 in Anaheim, Calif., to stay unbeaten.
In total, six fights will air on the FX-broadcast prelims over a three-hour block prior to the main card, including a heavyweight bout between former “TUF 10? housemates Matt Mitrione (6-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) and Brendan Schaub (9-3 MMA, 5-3 UFC). The Facebook prelims stream will feature a trio of fights prior to the FX broadcast.
