UFC on FOX 22 results: Eddie Wineland thumps Takeya Mizugaki for first-round TKO

SACRAMENTO, Calif. –  Timing was key when Eddie Wineland battled Takeya Mizugaki. And it was a perfectly timed right hand from Wineland that set the finish in motion.

The bantamweight bout was part of today’s UFC on FOX 22 preliminary card at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Calif. It streamed on UFC Fight Pass ahead of additional FS1 prelims and the FOX-televised main card.

Mizugaki (21-11-2 MMA, 8-6 UFC) spent the early portion of Round 1 attempting to figure out Wineland’s (23-11-1 MMA, 5-5 UFC) timing. He seemed to solve the puzzle quickly and popped Wineland with jabs as he stepped inside.

However, Wineland then threw the perfectly timed shot to set up the finish. As Mizugaki came forward, Wineland landed a right hand to the ear, scoring a knockdown.

Mizugaki managed to get back to his feet, but Wineland smelled blood and went for the finish, landing another big right for another knockdown and pouncing on the ground for the finish at the 3:04 mark of Round 1.

Wineland is now tied for second in finishes all-time in WEC and UFC history.
