Waterson took seventh-ranked strawweight VanZant down in the opening round of the main event. VanZant scrambled, trying to get back to her feet. As she did, Waterson quickly took her back and applied a rear-naked choke. “12 Gauge” fought to free herself from the choke but went to sleep before she could.
Faber’s 13-year fighting career closed with a win over Brad Pickett in main card action. “The California Kid” was met with an ovation as he made his way to the cage. The former WEC champion didn’t look like a fighter competing for the last time. He dropped Pickett in the early going and battered the Englishman for the duration of the bout. He dominated Pickett, winning the fight by unanimous decision.
UFC on Fox 22 featured 13 fights and was the last UFC event on free television in 2016.
