UFC on FOX 14's Andy Ogle: 'I should have been cut a long time ago'

STOCKHOLM – Andy Ogle believes he’s fighting for his UFC career at on Saturday at UFC on FOX 14. Then again, he thought the same prior to his previous fight. And also the one before that.

Ogle (9-4 MMA, 1-4 UFC) is riding a career-worst three-fight losing streak. He hasn’t earned an octagon victory since a February 2013 decision win over Josh Grispi, a fighter no longer with the organization.

The 25-year-old hasn’t fought since this past May. He wondered why he hadn’t received a bout from UFC matchmakers for several months, and at first, he believed he was on the outs. However, once he realized he was still employed, his attitude took a turn.

“The pessimist side is I was on the shelf for a long time, and I thought, ‘Aw, Sean Shelby doesn’t like me, he hates me, and he doesn’t’ want me to fight.’” Ogle told MMAjunkie. “F-ck, the optimist side, he could have cut me f-cking a long time ago. He could have cut me. … If anything Sean Shelby’s my best friend. He f-cking loves me because I should have been cut a long time ago.”

In the nearly 10 months since his last bout, Ogle has made changes to his career. The most crucial was the relocation of his training camp from his native England to Sacramento’s Team Alpha Male.

“Whether you lose by an inch or a mile, you still lose, so I had to make a change,” Ogle said. “I had to change things up. I’ve been enjoying training, and I’ve been helping some of the best guys in the world with their fights.”

Now training alongside the likes of UFC bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw, former WEC champ Urijah Faber and a plethora of contenders such as Chad Mendes, Ogle knows he’s now in the best position to flourish.

Ogle (9-4 MMA, 1-4 UFC) hopes his new training environment will mean good things inside the octagon when he meets Makwan Amirkhani (10-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) this Saturday at UFC on FOX 14. The featherweight matchup takes place on the FOX Sports 1-televised preliminary card prior to the main card on FOX at Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena.

While he regrets not making the move to Team Alpha Male earlier in life, Ogle wants to relish the here and now. So long as he does that, he believes his first UFC victory in nearly two years is just around the corner.

“I’ve done a lot of learning,” Ogle said. “I believe I should have went out to Sacramento a long, long time ago. I should have went after (‘The Ultimate Fighter’). I feel fate and destiny brings itself back around.”
