UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey won’t be fighting Miesha Tate for a third time, after all. At least not yet.
Rousey (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) today told “Good Morning America” that rather than Tate (17-5 MMA, 4-2 UFC), she’s slated to fight former pro boxer Holly Holm (9-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) at UFC 195 on Jan. 2.
UFC officials subsequently confirmed the event takes place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Currently, Rousey vs. Holm is the only fight announced for the card.
Rousey recently defeated Bethe Correia for her sixth consecutive title defense. Afterward, UFC officials said Rousey would fight Tate – and the champ opened as a substantial 11-1 favorite at the sportsbooks – but they apparently decided to go a different direction.
