UFC Post-Fight Bonuses Now Set at $50,000 for Every Event

UFC president Dana White on Thursday confirmed that the promotion’s traditional post-fight bonuses will now be leveled off at $50,000 for every event.

The UFC’s Fight of the Night, Knockout of the Night, and Submission of the Night bonuses often fluctuated depending upon the event, but will now be equal.

“The fights are $50,000 now, so I don’t have to say it anymore,” said White following the UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz pre-fight press conference.

In the past, “Fight Night” events, such as those on Fuel TV and FX, would often be slightly less than pay-per-view events. Events airing on cable television were typically awarded bonuses in the $30,000 to $50,000 range, while pay-per-view events generally spanned from $60,000 to $80,000 per bonus.

There was no defining reason for the move, said White; they just decided that it would be fair to set the amount the same for all events.

“Nobody ever complained about (different bonus amounts),” he said. “The bonuses are a gift, so it’s like getting a Christmas present and saying I didn’t want this, I wanted a (expletive) car. It was fair to keep them straight all the way across, so no matter what card you fight on, it’s the same bonus.”

There were of course exceptions that blew the doors off of the previously mentioned numbers. UFC 100, for instance, saw $100,000 bonuses handed out, while the record-setting UFC 129 in Toronto’s Rogers Centre, which drew a crowd of more than 55,000 fans, saw bonuses of $129,000 each handed out.

And White reserves the right to go nuts again if he wants to.

“Yeah, I can get as crazy as I want to get,” add White. “But it’s fair to keep them all $50,000. So if you’re on a Fuel card, if you’re a pay-per-view card, a ‘Fight Night’ card, it’s all the same.”
